Meet Kerryn and Gus: From nervous beginnings to lifelong friendship.
It all started in 2018 at the inaugural Alps 2 Ocean Multistage Run. Kerryn and Gus, stood in the registration line nervously, knowing hardly anyone. Both were secretly fighting the urge to sneak off for a nervous week. Awkward? Sweaty? Nerve Inducing? Oh, you have no idea! We were so far out of our comfort zone it was scary. But we fumbled our way through, and by the end of that race a strong friendship was born.
We shared the ups and downs, laughter, tears and many oh-so-relatable moments! Through every moment, we found our friendship, unapologetically real, completely supportive, and yes, probably TMI for most people was shared!
We have now travelled to events far and wide, supporting each other through injuries, successes, and the inevitable self-doubt. Kerryn, who has represented New Zealand at a competitive level, across a range of Endurance Events (Swimming, Cycling, Duathlon, Triathlon and Running) ranked in the top 10 in the world for 72hr and 6day racing (2023) - we're still not sure how, but suspect a mix of determination, chocolate and red bull! Gus, a grandma - (yes you read that right), has had to slow down due to a long-term illness, but refuses to give up what she loves and is still the best sidekick anyone could ask for.
We've navigated the wild ride of being women - running through menstrual cycles, braving perimenopause and menopause (hello hot flushes mid race and brain fog), and bonding over the shared trauma of chafing! We're both Mum's (Gus a grandma - seriously, how does she do it?), and we've learned a lot about our bodies, ourselves, and the vital importance of a good glass of wine and a bowl of chips after a long day on the trails.
In short, Kerryn and Gus are living proof that the best things in life often start with a nervous "hello", a few fumbled steps, and a lot of laughter. Whether we're running, walking, or just adventuring together, we've shared it all - and we wouldn't change a thing.
From our journey to Sherunz: Empowering women through running.
Our experiences—both the highs and the really awkward moments—have led us to a powerful realisation: We want to share this journey with other women. All the lessons we’ve learned, all the mistakes we’ve made, and all the joy we’ve found in running have come together to create Sherunz.
Why Sherunz? Because we believe every woman deserves a space where she can run her way, at her pace, surrounded by a supportive community. Whether it’s running, walking, shuffling through a 5K—or chasing down the next ultra—it’s not about speed. It’s not about distance. It’s about showing up, supporting each other, and making every step count.
At Sherunz, we host WOMEN ONLY EVENTS where we celebrate each other’s successes and offer a safe, encouraging space for the challenges. We travel to events together, cheering each other on, supporting one another with the kind of camaraderie that only women can truly understand. We offer PERSONALIZED, QUALIFIED COACHING because we get what it’s like to juggle running with life, kids, injuries, and everything in between.
And let’s not forget our WOMEN ONLY RETREATS—the perfect way to step away from the hustle and focus on ourselves. Whether it’s running through the mountains, practicing yoga, or sitting around with a cup of tea (or a glass of wine) and chatting about life, we’ve learned that rest is just as important as running, and community is everything.
We’re here to share our love of running (no, you absolutely don’t have to run far or fast!) and show you how to enjoy the journey. Whether you’re taking your first step into the world of running, coming back after an injury, or crossing the finish line of your next event, we’ll guide you through the ups and downs of life as a runner—and as a woman.
Join us at Sherunz. We’d love to share our mistakes, our learnings, and our love of running with you. Because when women come together, anything is possible. No matter how far or fast you run, you’ll always have a place in Sherunz.
So, come on. Let’s take this journey together—one step at a time. We’ve got your back, and we promise, it’ll be a lot of fun along the way!
